Facilitates production and flow through of production parts and customer maintenance and Mod programs. Liaison between multiple levels of management and customer service and buyer support and engineering. Monitors the overall performance recommends changes or modifications to maintain overall quality.

Education / Training:

• Some college/associates degree;

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required;

• 5+ years of experience working in a machine tool environment;

• Experience in production supervision.

Key Job Elements:

Duties and responsibilities (Note: duties/qualifications required will depend on assigned division):

• Monitors SMART goals, develops general strategies to achieve proposed goals;

• Leads, coaches, and manages performance of facility personnel;

• provides them with daily work assignments;

• monitors productivity in all areas;

• Manages schedules and vacation of PRS employees and forecasts overtime requirements;

• Performs labor reconciliations;

• prepares job postings;

• reviews new and completed work orders;

• Records and analyzes trend data for the customer;

• compares trends with staff work assignments;

• Works with craft to troubleshoot and repair locomotives;

• Tracks PRS assets;

• Ensures safety performance of shop personnel;

• Resolves performance, productivity, and efficiency issues;

• Oversees and ensures facility maintenance;

• Prepares information and participates in meetings with management to determine strategic objectives;

• Performs supervisory administrative duties;

• conducts mentoring / training;

• ensures payroll is completed and correct;

• conducts office admin meetings / HR / finance / scheduling;

• Ensures completion of proper record keeping, including Mod, quality, production, and safety;

• Performs additional job-related duties as assigned;

• Manages and schedules manufacturing of Progress Rail products;

• Determines overtime needs, determines priorities when resources are limited;

• Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to maximize efficiency;

• Ensures preventive maintenance is performed according to schedule;

• Implements various corporate initiatives, such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, Drum / Buffer / Rope, etc;

• Monitors and improves safety on the shop floor;

• eliminates / mitigates any unsafe conditions;

• Evaluates, assesses, and identifies training needs for the work force; assists with creating, training, and implementing work standards;

• Adjusts section staffing to meet flow and customer requirements;

• Develops coworkers / team members to further strengthen their core competencies;

• provides feedback and evaluates employees;

• Tracks production and material fallout;

• Drives Root Cause identification;

• Drives continuous process improvement;

• Performs additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Experience supervising a workforce maintaining work standards and task completion;

• Works well with very little supervision;

• Job Shop expeirence in a high volume and fast paced enviroment;

• Experience with Fanuc and Mazak controlled CNC milling machine, welding knowledge and experience a plus;

• Experience managing outcome-based activities where participants are graded on performance;

• Knowledge of and experience with ISO standards;

• High level of communication skills, both written and oral;

• Focused on continuous process improvement with experience with Lean or Six Sigma;

• Open to change; flexible with ability to switch responsibilities daily, as needed in highly diversified duties;

• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint;

• Understanding of company policies and documentation;

• Understanding of scheduling and manpower planning;

• Training in Lean Manufacturing and Auditing preferred;

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
