Job Purpose:

Progress Rail Services Corporation, a Caterpillar Company and a leading provider of services to the Railroad industry in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, seeks a Quality Manager at our facility in Independence, MO.

This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of all Quality Assurance facets. This is a hands-on, extremely fast-paced position requiring the ideal candidate to have good problem solving, organization, communication, and management skills.

Key Job Elements:

Responsibilities Include:

• Provide clear leadership, ensuring focus of Quality in daily environment and culture;

• Consistently promote high standards through personal example and effective communication of QMS requirements;

• Serve as a member of the location's management team. Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance. Work collaboratively, negotiate, and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the quality strategy;

• Lead the creation and implementation of best practice quality strategy and processes to aid and improve operational performance while meeting or exceeding customer expectations;

• Confer with management, customers, suppliers, and other representatives in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and directing the quality assurance program in conformance with customer requirements, prints, specifications, industry requirements, regulatory requirements, and certifications;

• Align Quality Management System where it utilizes Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) and subsets including; Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Controls Plans, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), SPC, 6S, Lean, and Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) processes;

• Maintain ISO9001 Certifications and regulatory certifications;

• Lead a ‘correct at source’ and problem solving supporting an effective corrective action process methodology;

• Serve as liaison with customers on items of product quality or reliability;

• Respond to customer complaints with containment actions, full analysis, poka-yokes (error proofing), implementing short-term/long-term countermeasures, and ensuring irreversible corrective actions;

• Assist with supplier PPAP, receiving inspection, audits, and supplier corrective action processes;

• Oversee internal audits, supplier audits, and process/product audits;

• Confer with management team in the identification and reporting of metrics that will monitor and evaluate business processes and customer satisfaction;

• Manage close looped data system that ensures data accuracy, analysis, transparency, actions, and continuous improvement;

• Champion a program for the implementation and sustainment of a continuous improvement culture.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

• Advanced Problem-solving and decision-making skills;

• Effective Leadership skills: effective team builder who can demonstrate confidence, enthusiasm, diplomacy, effective delegation;

• Creativity and adaptability to successfully guide the facility through changing business conditions while achieving objectives;

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interface with other inside and outside of the organization;

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents, interpret policies and procedures; Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis;

• Proven track record to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies;

• Knowledge of MRPs or ERPs Systems;

• Ability to effectively present information to team members, top management and customers;

• Knowledge of Quality Tools and standards: ISO9001, AAR, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, MSA, SQA, 6-Sigma;

• Proficient with Microsoft Tools.

Preferred Experience:

• Six Sigma Trained;

• Mechanical, Electrical assembly, Manufacturing, Software;

• Association of American Railroad Specifications;

• Leadership Training;

• Certified QMS Auditor;

• Supplier Quality Management;

• IPC knowledge in PCB and cable assemblies;

• Software development life-cycle using C, C#.

Travel Requirements:

• Occasional domestic and international travel;

• Approximately 5 - 10%.
